The Oscars are this week and this is when the film industry gets to come together to celebrate film itself and all the people who help- wait, what? The trailer to Fast and Furious 9 just dropped? Ok, hold on. This seems right so far- Vin is holding the family together, Tyrese is making all his very good jokes, Michelle Rodriguez is being badass. Oh wow, John Cena is in this one as Dom’s brother, that’s exciting. Helen Mirren is back too. WAIT- HOLY SHIT- HAN’S BACK! HAN IS BACK! HAN IS BACK! Fuck the oscars, please give my ticket now please. I fucking love these movies. Also here are movies:

And Then We Danced + Q&A with Director- 7pm- Swedish-Georgian film about a member of a traditional Georgian dance ensemble falling for another male member of the ensemble. The dancing is great and also the lead actor is definitely the Timothee Chalamet of Georgia. Quad Cinema
Adaptation in 35mm- 7pm- Come watch Nic Cage out-act Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper (but not Brian Cox). It also has my favorite screenplay ever written, so that ain’t bad either. Roxy Cinema

Thursday, Feb. 6:
That Tender Touch + Q&A with Queer Film Historian- 7pm- Lesbian exploitation film from 1969 (nice) that features some of Russ Meyer’s go-to actresses, with a discussion by queer film historian Jenni Olsen afterwards. Quad Cinema

Sunday, Feb. 9:
Oscar Night- 6pm- Easily the best Oscar party in town, no question. All other Oscar parties believe that The Irishman had great CGI and was just the right length and actually wanted to see more of the nursing home segments. Metrograph
Ultra-Mega Oscars 2020- 7:30pm- The Ultra-Mega Oscars are the highest evolution of Oscars. Also I heard that all of the other Oscar parties voted for Green Book last year and this year, they’re totally going to vote for Jojo Rabbit. Nitehawk Prospect Park
Oscar Party 2020- 8pm- New York’s #1 Oscar party. Also, a lot of the other Oscar parties were saying how Joker is so very brave and should definitely have been nominated for the best picture and actually, it should win that award because it’s so cool and also brave. Roxy Cinema
92nd Annual Academy Awards- 8pm- The classiest Oscar party in the city, and that’s what the Oscars are all about. Also, all the other parties will absolutely try to explain to you why it’s not ridiculous that Ford V. Ferrari was nominated as best movie of an entire year, and in fact, why it is the best movie of an entire year. Syndicated
What Else is Playing:
Beanpole
